Size: This is a medium size shrimp, growing
usually to 170 mm ( about 6.7 inches), though some
specimens up to 220 mm (8.7 inches) have been noted.
Description: A marine species found on muddy
bottoms in shallow water down to 92 meters ( about 300
feet ).

Comments: The jinga shrimp is the main species
known to world trade as “ Indian brown “ shrimp. It is
one of major commercial importance in Pakistan, the west
and southeast coasts of India, both coast of Malaya, and
in Hong Kong. It is very similar to M. moyebi, the
moyebi shrimp, which is also called “ middle prawn “ in
Chinese. It is also very similar to M. ensis, the greasy
back shrimp. In Malaysia, jinga shrimp is cultured in
ponds. It is a firm, good tasting shrimp, versatile in
use.
